Predicting Where The NFL’s Top 24 Free Agents Will Sign

With the 2024 season officially complete and the Philadelphia Eagles as Super Bowl champions, it’s time to look ahead to the 2025 season. Ultimately, 31 teams came up short of their goal entering the season, and will look to free agency to improve upon last year’s performance. In a surprisingly deep pool of players, we predict where the 24 best remaining free agents will sign.

24. Talanoa Hufanga

Sergio Estrada-Imagn Images

The energetic safety likely won’t re-up with the 49ers. San Francisco will be spending this offseason trying to revamp its financial situation while building roster depth. Hufanga appeared to be a budding star until tearing his ACL in 2023. Still working his way back, a team such as Indianapolis would do well to nab a high-upside guy at only 25 years of age. Prediction: Hufanga signs with the Indianapolis Colts.

23. Dre Greenlaw

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The athletic linebacker has been sidelined for essentially a full year due to tearing his Achilles in the 2023 Super Bowl versus the Kansas City Chiefs. He played a handful of snaps in 2024 before effectively sitting out to further rehabilitate. Greenlaw will only be 28 when this upcoming season begins. Some teams will take a flier on him with the hopes of reviving his career. One such team with a defensive mindset would be the Baltimore Ravens. Prediction: Greenlaw signs with the Baltimore Ravens.

22. Malcolm Koonce

Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

The 26-year-old out of Buffalo showed some real promise with the Raiders before sitting out this past year with a knee injury. Assuming he can come back healthy, there’s some real value here for a guy who could approach double-digit sack totals given his ability off the edge. With Von Miller getting old, the hometown Bills could be a nice fit. Prediction: Koonce signs with the Buffalo Bills.

21. Cam Robinson

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Robinson played this last year for the Vikings. All things considered, he filled in admirably as the team’s left tackle. With Christian Darrisaw expected back, Robinson will hit the open market. He plays at a premium position, and while he’s not an elite player, some team — likely the Browns — will value his services based on the desperate need for OL upgrades. Prediction: Robinson signs with the Cleveland Browns.

20. Stefon Diggs

Troy Taormina-Imagn Images

Diggs had a disastrous spell in Houston. He’ll be ready to reset his value and replicate the form he once showed in Buffalo. It’ll be interesting to see which teams value his services. He may have to be realistic in taking a pay cut compared to what he made in the past. It would be somewhat interesting to see him head to Dallas as a strong WR2 alongside CeeDee Lamb. Prediction: Diggs signs with the Dallas Cowboys.

19. Milton Williams

Stephen Lew-Imagn Images

Williams blossomed into one of the best interior pass rushers in the game. At 25 years old, he’s just scratching the surface of his potential. A deep, crowded Philadelphia DL could allow for Williams to sign elsewhere. Arizona’s defense was abysmal last year. Head coach Jonathan Gannon knows Williams well, and he’d immediately upgrade a front seven in desperate need of it. Prediction: Williams signs with the Arizona Cardinals.

18. Haason Reddick

Brad Penner-Imagn Images

Reddick is now back on the market after a very strange period in the Big Apple. Going back to Arizona with the Cardinals has been heavily rumored throughout the early stages of the offseason. Reddick is familiar with the ecosystem, and the upstart Cardinals could use some pop coming off the edge for its porous defense. This seems like a natural pairing. Prediction: Reddick signs with the Arizona Cardinals.

17. Aaron Jones

Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images

Jones rumbled for 1,138 yards and 5 TDs for the Vikings last year. He also caught 51 passes for 408 yards and two more TDs. Unfortunately for Jones, he plays the running back position. Even worse, he’s 30 years of age. Teams will be very leery giving him a multi-year deal. The Raiders may end up splurging — if for nothing else than the fact that Pete Carroll loves a run-heavy offense. Jones is proven, versatile, and may have two more good years left before the dreaded fall from being an adequate back. Prediction: Jones signs with the Las Vegas Raiders.

16. Carlton Davis

Junfu Han-Imagn Images

Before breaking his jaw, Davis was arguably the best defensive back on the best team in football. He’s proven to be very adept at tracking receivers in coverage as well as jostling with them for jump balls. Detroit would love to have him back. A host of teams likely will throw their hat in the Carlton Davis ring. One of them will be the Raiders. Pete Carroll’s specialty is in the secondary — and what better way to improve your team’s defense than signing a shutdown corner? Prediction: Davis signs with the Las Vegas Raiders.

15. Byron Murphy

Matt Krohn-Imagn Images

Minnesota’s defense was helped out considerably by Murphy’s emergence. The former Arizona Cardinal made the Pro Bowl this past year for the Vikings. He’s another defensive back with a real nose for the football (evidenced by six interceptions). The Vikings have cap space to work with, and getting Murphy taken care of seems logical. Prediction: Murphy re-signs with the Minnesota Vikings.

14. Charvarius Ward

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

With Kansas City and San Francisco, we’ve seen him blossom into a very smart player on the backend. The fact he’s made an All-Pro team also illustrates Ward’s apparent value. He did have a rough 2024 — likely stemming from the tragic death of his infant daughter. He’ll leave SF in search of a new home. He’s still only 28 years old, and the Vikings could be an ideal destination in a pass-happy NFC North. Prediction: Ward signs with the Minnesota Vikings.

13. Amari Cooper

Mark Konezny-Imagn Images

Cooper won’t command a hugely expensive deal. He’s going to be 31 by the time next year begins. Cooper accrued only 547 yards this year. However, he’s still a veteran receiver with solid route-running skills. One could see Cooper re-emerging as a difference-maker with a more stable situation. Remember, he’s had four 1,000-yard years since 2019. The Chargers could take a flier here and benefit with Cooper alongside Ladd McConkey. Prediction: Cooper signs with the Los Angeles Chargers.

12. Nick Bolton

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Bolton is a compactly built player with impressive short-area quickness. Dating back to his days at Mizzou, Bolton also was quite instinctual — diagnosing plays and reacting accordingly. The leading tackler for the Chiefs this past season, we’d be very surprised if the front office let him go. Bolton is an underrated player and is unequivocally the heartbeat of the defense in Arrowhead. Prediction: Bolton re-signs with the Kansas City Chiefs.

11. D.J. Reed

Brad Penner-Imagn Images

Reed plays bigger than his 5-foot-9 height would indicate. Feisty and quick, we’ve seen others in his position traditionally shine despite possessing less-than-ideal height. With former NFL DB Aaron Glenn entrenched as the new head coach, bringing Reed back into the fold seems like a no-brainer, despite the fact there have been some rumblings of Reed going elsewhere. Prediction: Reed re-signs with the New York Jets.

10. Josh Sweat

Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

The soon-to-be 28-year-old has all the makings of a guy who will be getting a hefty payday. What the Eagles decide to do with fellow free agent Zack Baun could go a long way in determining Sweat’s re-upping with his current team. He led Philly in sacks this season. There’s always a premium on pass-rushing talent. With Sweat still in his prime, someone will pony up the cash. Prediction: Sweat re-signs with the Philadelphia Eagles.

9. Khalil Mack

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

At this stage in his career, he likely won’t command a ton of money. The 9-time Pro Bowler is heading towards his mid-30s — an age range most non-quarterbacks don’t get to. Mack is a leader on the Chargers, and there’s a mutual level of love between the player and the organization. He’ll likely re-up to further help the Chargers get to a Super Bowl. Prediction: Mack re-signs with the Los Angeles Chargers.

8. Zack Baun

Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

Go get paid, young man! The 28-year-old was named a First Team All-Pro selection for the Philadelphia Eagles after notching a whopping 151 tackles. He’s fast, physical, and seemingly always has a nose for the football. The Eagles will face stiff competition for Baun. One team already trying to open up cap space is the Los Angeles Rams. If they can get off Cooper Kupp’s contact as rumored, Baun would be an elite fit for a unit desperately needing LB help. Prediction: Baun signs with the LA Rams.

7. Jevon Holland

Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

The former Oregon Ducks star should have multiple suitors pining for his services. He’s a ball hawk safety with above-average athleticism and the versatility to toggle between multiple positions on the back end. A native of Oakland, he’ll get the chance to come back home to the Bay and play for the 49ers. Prediction: Holland signs with the San Francisco 49ers.

6. Ronnie Stanley

Denny Medley-Imagn Images

30-year-old All-Pro left tackles don’t grow on trees. Stanley has battled bouts of injuries and inconsistency throughout his career. However, he’s the best left tackle in this class given his experience and talent. There’s real buzz Stanley will leave Baltimore. The Ravens could look to get younger and address the spot through the draft. Should this occur, a team like the Commanders can swoop in and give Jayden Daniels more help. Prediction: Stanley signs with the Washington Commanders.

5. Chris Godwin

Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images

The former Penn State product has the profile of a WR1. Coming off a brutal injury, Godwin is still on the south side of 30 and has already accrued four years with at least 1,000 yards receiving. The tough, physical nature of his game makes him a potential fit with the Chargers. However, Tampa’s organization loves Godwin. It would make sense for him to stay alongside Mike Evans. Prediction: Godwin re-signs with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

4. Darius Slay

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

The six-time Pro Bowler has become one of the more interesting free agents on the market. Philadelphia released the 34-year-old in order to save more than $4 million in cap space. With the emergences of Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, Slay was deemed superfluous moving forward for the Eagles. That’s not to say he doesn’t have value. He’s a veteran corner with tons of postseason experience. For a team looking to get over the hump, adding a player of Slay’s caliber would be a wise move. Reports indicate he may be done after this upcoming year. The team that initially drafted him, the Detroit Lions, could be in the driver’s seat here. Prediction: Slay signs with the Detroit Lions.

3. Russell Wilson

Tommy Gilligan-Imagn Images

Wilson played some competent football for the Steelers this past year. In a league starved for competency at the QB spot, one could do a whole lot worse than Wilson. He threw for only five INTs this past year. There’s the obvious benefits stemming from his pedigree and maturity level. A team looking for a short-term fix — such as the Raiders and new head coach Pete Carroll — makes a ton of sense. Prediction: Wilson signs with the Las Vegas Raiders.

2. Davante Adams

Brad Penner-Imagn Images

There’s two ways to look at Adams. One school of thought might insist that his best days are now behind him. At age 32, Adams may have lost a step — and the prospect of bringing him in could be unappealing. On the other hand, he’s only a short time removed from being one of the best receivers in football. The volatility he dealt with in both Las Vegas and New York may be more so a byproduct of those situations rather than him depreciating as a player. For a contender, Adams makes some real sense. Get him with a good quarterback and a stable organization, and you could be able able extract the remainder of his productive football snaps. Prediction: Adams signs with the Los Angeles Chargers.

1. Sam Darnold

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

We can’t envision a scenario where Darnold isn’t brought back in some capacity. He’s coming off an excellent year with the Vikings where he shockingly led them to the playoffs. Darnold’s mobility was integral in having success this year. The game slowed down for him and he finally looked like the talented signal caller we saw at USC. Despite JJ McCarthy waiting in the wings, it would be prudent to bring Darnold back. He’s a high-level leader and would also be a high-level trade chip should the team deem McCarthy a real option to start within the next couple of seasons. Prediction: Darnold re-signs with the Minnesota Vikings.
