NFL: Report Card Grades In The NFC East For Week 2

We’re two weeks into the NFL season, which means it’s time to revisit report cards! With the Eagles starting to separate themselves from the NFC East pack, things are already starting to shake out in the division. There’s still a long way to go, but let’s dig in and see what grade each NFC East team got in Week 2.

Philadelphia Eagles Week 2 Overall Grade: B+

The Eagles now sit alone atop the NFC East at 2-0 after taking down the Chiefs 20-17 on the road. It wasn’t a convincing victory, but a road victory in Kansas City is no easy thing so we won’t knock them too much on style points here. A win is a win, after all.

I could argue that this grade should be even lower, as the Eagles only put up 216 total yards on the day. Jalen Hurts barely topped 100 passing yards with 101 on the day, and A.J. Brown again looked stuck in the mud with five catches for just 27 yards. Things will get better for the Eagles, but the offense isn’t even close to firing on all cylinders yet.

The Eagles defense carried them on Sunday in allowing just 294 total yards to the Chiefs. They also stymied Patrick Mahomes and kept him to 187 passing yards on the day, and held the Chiefs to just 55 rushing yards from their running backs.

Washington Commanders Week 2 Overall Grade: D

The Commanders only lost to the Packers 27-18, but the score was a lot closer than the actual game. Washington was only able to put up three points through the first three quarters and scored most of their points during garbage time. Now 1-1, the Commanders will look to get back on track at home against the Raiders in Week 3.

There wasn’t much good coming out of the Commanders offense this week as Jayden Daniels only had 200 yards passing and the entire team rushed for just 51 total yards on the ground. The Commanders are a better offense than they showed in Week 2, and this score was more of a statement about how good the Packers defense is. ,

While the Commanders defense wasn’t horrible, they still gave up 400+ total yards and made Tucker Kraft look like Rob Gronkowski. The Packers have a decent offense, but the Commanders didn’t do a whole lot to stop them on Thursday Night Football and deserve every bit of this grade.

Dallas Cowboys Week 2 Overall Grade: C+

While the Cowboys got their first win of the season, it wasn’t pretty. Dallas was fortunate to escape with the victory against the lowly Giants, and made Russell Wilson and company look like the Greatest Show on Turf. The Cowboys will look to get above .500 with a matchup against the Bears in Week 3.

The Cowboys offense looked great all around on Sunday. Dak Prescott threw for 361 yards, Javonte Williams ran for 97 yards, and CeeDee Lamb got back on track with 9 catches for 112 yards. George Pickens and Jake Ferguson got in on the action as well, with 14 catches and 146 yards combined between the two of them.

While the Cowboys won, giving up 450 passing yards to Russell Wilson is just embarrassing. The Cowboys sorely miss Micah Parsons on defense, and are honestly lucky to walk away with the win against the Giants this week.

New York Giants Week 2 Overall Grade: C-

The Giants were awful on both sides of the ball in Week 1, but Week 2 saw a massive improvement on one of those sides (more on that in a moment). However, a 40-37 overtime loss will never qualify as much more than a C – especially with how bad the Giants defense looked. The Giants are now 0-2 and are staring 0-3 in the face as the Chiefs come to town in Week 3.

After an absolutely abysmal Week 1, the Giants offense put up over 500 yards of total offense against the Cowboys. Russell Wilson was a star in putting up 450 passing yards, and Malik Nabers again looked like one of the best receivers in the league. It’s also worth noting that Cam Skattebo seemed to take control of the Giants’ RB1 spot with 11 carries for 45 yards and a rushing touchdown.

The Giants defense was again their Achilles heel on Sunday as they gave up 487 total yards and 40 points. They couldn’t stop the Cowboys at all when they needed to at the end of the game, and were this close to getting an F. Things aren’t going to get much easier with Kansas City up next.
