MLB: Trade Deadline Winners

After a very eventful trade deadline day last week, I wanted to take a look at the biggest winners now that the dust has finally settled. Let’s dive in:

New York Mets

Added one of the best RP on the market in Ryan Helsley and got a great OF in Cedric Mullins from the Orioles. They are in a battle with the Phillies for the NL East crown, but at the very least, they have positioned themselves to easily make the playoffs. 

Houston Astros

Big deadline for them. They added to the offense, and their pitching was already great. They should be in a position to get one of the two first-round byes in the AL. Correa and Jesus Sanchez are really great additions.  

San Diego Padres

They got one of the best RP in all of MLB from the A’s and added solid bats from the Orioles. They could chase down the Dodgers, but at the very least, this should solidify them as a wild-card team in the NL. 

Seattle Mariners

They upgraded their offense in a big way by acquiring both Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez from the Diamondbacks in separate deals. They could catch Houston, but even if they don’t, they certainly helped their cause in the AL Wild Card race. 

New York Yankees

They didn’t add a SP, which might cost them down the line, but they did add 3 big bullpen pieces and suddenly have one of the best pens in MLB. They also added plenty of depth/role players offensively. 

Cincinnati Reds

Although they didn’t add any of the biggest names, the Reds added depth, got better offensively and defensively, and added a solid SP in Littell from the Rays. 

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies got a lockdown closer in Duran from the Twins. They also added depth to their lineup and should make a strong push the rest of the way.
